Strengthening Deterrence in NATO’s Eastern Flank

The Crimea crisis has increased the military risks facing the frontline NATO states of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Fifteen years after joining the Alliance, U.S. allies in the region continue to lack a Significant Allied military presence and remain susceptible to Russian military pressure, intimidation or even invasion.

NATO should move decisively to address this problem by reinforcing defensive capabilities, bolstering regional security and ensuring that NATO member state is victim of a Crimea-style land grab.
